The Peace silver dollar design was introduced in 1921 commemorating the end of World War I, the war to end all wars.
Award Winning Design
Nine famous American artists were asked to create designs for the new silver dollars. The design by Anthony De Francisci was chosen depicting a modern Art Deco, Liberty Head with a crown of rays. On the reverse, a bold majestic eagle rests on a mountain top, clutching a laurel wreath in his talons.
Limited Mintages
Peace Silver Dollars were minted intermittently from 1921 to 1928, 1934 and 1935 at the Philadelphia Mint, Denver Mint, and San Francisco Mint.
Millions Destroyed in Meltdowns
Most U.S. Silver Dollars were melted down during World War II and in the 1980's when silver soared to $50 an ounce. As a result, Peace Silver Dollars are highly prized today by coin collectors.
